Castle graffiti

Only now found out about the Brazilian graffiti on Kelburn castle in Scotland. Completed in 2007 and scheduled for removal in 2010 but it is still there. Fantastico!

Unsurprisingly it has drawn a fair bit of criticism. You can read an old article about it in the Scotsman. I applaud the vision of the owners and hope that it stays up for as long as possible.

Commercial ripping rears it's ugly head

I was in a shopping centre when I spotted a pretty illustration on a shop window. I don't know why or how but a couple of days later I was surfing on the internet when I came across the same picture on the artists site. There were a few differences, the main one being that the original on the artists site had been produced for a company, complete with company logos, which had no affiliation with the shop where I saw the picture. I thought it was a bit strange that the same image (minus logos) was being used for two different companies. So I sent the artist an email with a picture of the shop window. Unfortunately it turned out the artist had no connection with the second company and they were using the image illegally (all over their website too).

It's such a shame that this is happening. Someone had to go into the image to remove the original logos and change the background. I really hope the artist manages to resolve this. But, honestly, it was pure luck that it was discovered.

All I can say is that if you find yourself in the same situation then please send an email to inform the artist. It doesn't cost anything and an artist doesn't necessarily know everything that their image is being used for. I happen to be living in a different country to where the artist was based so they would have probably never been alerted.
